Sheffield Grief Tending

Book here for all events

We’re planning some one-day grief tending events at a beautiful location in Bamford on these Sundays: 26th April, 28th June, 6th September. These You are welcome to join us for any and all of them. Each day will start at 9.30am, and will end at 5.30pm. We’re also planning a residential weekend in Autumn or Winter, more info coming soon.

Cost: £50 / £70 / £90. Drinks, snacks, and a simple lunch will be provided.

What will happen…

We aim to create a kind and brave space which also prioritises self-care. We’ll introduce different tools and rituals that we’ve learnt during our practices in Grief Tending, psychotherapy, buddhism, Processwork, and movement therapy.

The day will include opportunities to connect in pairs, small groups and in the whole group, as well as time by yourself to write, draw or move. There’ll be shared silence and song.

We hope you’ll feel able to be exactly as you are or need to be during the day – what we offer as prompts for reflection, connection or expression of grief are invitations, that you can engage with, or not, as you wish. You are welcome to join in or sit out for as much of it as feels right for you.

We’re particularly drawing on our work with Sophy Banks, who learnt about the Dagara grief rituals through her time with Sobunfu Somé; and of Francis Weller, who wrote the book The Wild Edge of Sorrow.

We are defining grief in its broadest terms. We’re using it to encompass any pain, any loss, any anticipated loss. It includes bereavement; other personal losses; ancestral and inter-generational grief, and grief for the world. Grief comes in many shapes – it includes numbness or feeling frozen; rage; horror; fear; sorrow.

We are able to offer a small number of bursary places – please get in touch to request.

If you have any questions, or if you’d like to arrange a chat with one of us, please email us: sheffieldgrieftending@gmail.com
